Christiania

Hudson has dedicated his blog to posting about Denmark today, so after realizing that Christiania was conspiculously absent from his round-up, I took it upon myself to continue the meme and pay my respects here:

Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania is a partially self-governing neighbourhood of about 850 residents in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Christiania has established semi-legal status as an independent community, but has been a source of controversy since its creation in a squatted military area in 1971.

I’ve played a few shows in the community over the years, and it’s really like no other place in the world.
