As it turns out, many conservatives are switching their traditional Republican allegiances, citing the Iraq war as a transgression of their fundamental ethics. Boston University professor Andrew Bacevich, for one, believes that the war has weakened the potential for domestic conservative reform. “For conservatives, Obama represents a sliver of hope. McCain represents none at all,” he writes in The American Conservative. “The choice turns out to be an easy one.”
